Good evening ladies and gentleman,
This time last year I pestered my parents into letting me attend the shine academy program for girls and I am so thankful they agreed because this program taught me a lot about self-worth, assertiveness, and how to express myself logically. I have gained an understanding of how to give feedback in a positive manner, how to notice when someone is lying and how to start a conversation through an open ended question! A lesson that I will continuously look back on, especially in the near future is how to apply yourself for a job interview. Learning what you should and shouldn’t say in an interview, to have an appropriate appearance, to be punctual and to be polite and respectful to everyone. My favourite topic that we learnt about was the three main types of intelligence; EQ, SQ & AQ. I am not the most academic person so it felt quite comforting to know that academic ability is not everything and that people tend to gravitate towards one with a greater understanding of emotional (EQ) and social intelligence (SQ) rather than academic intelligence. I would like to thank Ms. Anderson. I notice myself frequently telling my parents about how I aspire to be confident, respectful, well spoken and kind hearted as she is. There was never a lesson where I did not learn something, everything we talked about and every game we played always had a purpose. “If you want to sore with the eagles don’t surround yourself with turkeys”… meaning if you want to be a leader you shouldn’t surround yourself with people who do not have the same morels as you do. By surrounding yourself with people who are brighter and more talented than you, you will always be motivated to go above and beyond in everything you do. I had moved half way through the program and yet these wonderful girls still found a way to included me, I am so grateful that I got to complete this program with such bright, beautiful… kind hearted, future leaders!! I wish you all the very best!
… And for the last time good evening and goodnight!
